Dichtol Sealants

Dichtol is a quick, easy and proven metal impregnation sealant for microporosity and hairline cracks without the need for pressure or vacuum. Dichtol is simply applied by brushing, dipping or spraying. Dichtol penetrates and seals deep pores and provides pressure tight seals for coatings, castings and other surfaces where fine porosity sealing is required. Applications include: thermal spray coatings, castings, machining, tool making, automotive, ship building and metal industries and where surfaces are subjected to severe chemical and mechanical conditions.

Product Benefits and Features:

  • Dichtol helps resist premature failure of HVOF, plasma spray, arc spray coatings
  • Chemical resistance against many aggressive chemicals (see below)
  • Transparent with enhanced surface and varnish properties
  • Dichtol WFT 1532 & WFT 1546 continuous temperature resistant -170 °C – +250 °C
  • Sealants good to 8700 psi (600 bar)
  • Food and drinking water approved
  • Cures approximately 1 mm /per hour of wall/coating thickness
  • Available in quarts (0.93 litre) and gallon (3.7 litre) quantities
  • 12 month shelf life
  • Developed in Germany and used worldwide since 1964

Dichtol Products

Dichtol WFT 1532 – Porosity below 100 µm

Dichtol WFT 1546 - Porosity between 100 – 500 µm

Dichtol HRT 0977 - High Temperature Sealant to 500 C

Application Instructions

  1. Areas to be impregnated must be clean, dry and free of oil and water. For oiled soaked parts, wash with 100% acetone. For wet parts heat to 150 °C (300°F) to vaporize water. Cool part to below 30°C (< 85°F)
  2. Apply by:
    1. Brush crosswise with a soft brush 3 to 4 times with a brief interval (~1 min) between coats
    2. Spray 3 to 4 times crosswise with a brief interval (~1 min) between coats
    3. Immersing/dipping 30 minutes in closed container
  3. Dichtol WFT 1532 and 1546 cure in ambient temperatures at approx. 1 hour per mm wall/coating thickness (i.e. 8 hours cure time for 8 mm penetration thickness).
  4. Dichtol HRT 0977 requires curing at 250 °C for 3 hours, 1 hr after application.
